How to bulk edit post properties in seconds

Have you ever been faced with the situation where you wanted to change a property of a large number of your posts in bulk, like for example to allow comments, publish or un-publish them and didn’t know how to do that in a single step ? ( without the need to open your database and change the values over there manually.)

I was in this situation today, and found a quick and easy way to do that and here is how:( check attached image below)

  1. Go to your posts page and put a check mark next to the posts you want to affect.
  2. Click on the drop-down that says” Bulk Actions” and choose Edit and click Apply.
  3. This opens up a  screen which allows you to choose from the options to do:
    • Assign posts to categories
    • Assign tags to posts
    • Allow or dis-allow comments
    • Allow or dis-allow pings
    • Publish or Un-publish them
    • Makes  posts sticky or not
  4. Press Update and you’re Done!

Joomla… I am disappointed!

I am very sorry to say that a friend contacted me to say that his Joomla site has been hacked and that he’s finding a great difficulty in regaining control over it .

When I first compared WordPress to Joomla I said I saw many advantages it had over WordPress and  a lot of friends and visitors commented saying that Joomla was very vulnerable to hacking and to be honest I didn’t believe them at first, but now I certainly do!

I tried to search online to find ways to regain the site and undo the damage done by the hackers but didn’t find anything useful, and even though I managed to install a couple of extensions which claimed to prevent hackers but nothing worked and the site got hacked again within a few minutes.

Joomla … I am really disappointed in you!

Best WordPress themes I’ve worked with

As a WordPress designer I’ve worked with lots of themes from different sources, and over the time I could tell which were good ones and where were not.

I will try to cover here some of the best themes I’ve worked with to give you a heads up on where to go when looking for quality themes.

1. Blank or Bare-bones themes:

If you’re a designer like me, you would be looking for themes that have no styling at all to apply your custom work to it, and there are some really good ones for this:

2. Quality Free Themes:

One of the greatest thing about WordPress is the availability of thousands of quality free themes for it to make it super easy for you to find any style you’re looking for, and here are some of the best I’ve seen:

5 Most valuable lessions I learned from my computer crash

It all started like a normal day working at my computer when I noticed an alarm of a virus threat on my PC, so I ran AVG anti-virus scan which detected the file, then I thought why not use an anti-malware to clean it instead, so I opened MalwareBytes and scanned. It found 10 infected files and I simply clicked REMOVE, and then restarted my computer as prompted.

And… the was it. I could not access my computer anymore. Just a blank desktop with nothing on it!

Computer Crash

3 Full days of pain I endured to get back to my PC and regain all my files and programs back and here is my list of Must-Do tips to prevent suffering like I did:

  1. Always backup regularly and get the best backup software and hardware you can afford( I’ve always thought that it’s not crucial to pay for backup hardware, I was totally Wrong!). I also use Mozy for online backups, it’s easy to use and efficient.
Update: I bought a Western Digital External Hard drive and am currently backing up all my work on it.
  2. Have a Plan B in case things go wrong, like another PC or laptop with your software, settings, files etc.. that you could use in cases of emergency.
  3. Always travel with your important Recovery CD’s and backup( I didn’t!)
  4. When things go wrong with you hardware, seek a professional immediately( Don’t try to fix it yourself like I did! trust me, it won’t work in most cases!)
  5. Be prepared mentally for such occasions and don’t panic or get depressed, after all it’s YOU who is the most important not your PC or files and you can always get back on track even if you lose everything.

A Word to anti-virus programmers and companies:

Please, make sure to tell your programs which files shouldn’t be deleted and how to deal with infected systme files that can crash the computer if removed!

I’ve always trusted such programs but I guess I was wrong!

So, hope you find those useful and I look forward to hearing your part of the story and your tips for not getting stuck with a computer crash once more.
